Collins' Barracks
On the 10th of November we went on a school tour to Collins' Barracks. It was an old barracks which is now turned into a museum. We left at quarter past nine. When we came into Dublin we saw the River Liffey, the Guinness Brewery, the Courts, Heuston Station and the Luas. We arrived at Collins' Barracks at quarter past eleven. We followed Ms. Darcy and Ms. Dolan. We had to be careful crossing the road because the Luas was passing. When we walked through the gate and saw Collins' Barracks, we thought it was huge. We stood in the courtyard for a minute and then went into a lunchroom. We sat at the tables and ate our lunch. When we were all finished we went back out to the courtyard. Ms. Darcy put us into two groups. There were fifteen in one group and twenty six in the other. The group I was in went to the Decorative Arts section. In my group we were given four artefacts. There was an old mobile phone, a button polisher, two paddles and a silver serving spoon. The old mobile had a battery at the back. The battery only lasted an hour. The phone was huge. When we finished our workshop we went on a tour of part of the museum and met the other group. We saw a huge, long boat and an aeroplane. We also saw Michael Collins' coat which he wore when he was shot. There was no blood though. I really liked the 1916 room and I liked looking at the soldiers' uniforms. I enjoyed the trip and would like to go again!
