Maeve Friel's visit to St. Rynaghs.
Maeve Friel visited our school last Wednesday as part of our world book day celebrations. We enjoyed her interesting and informative visit. She read from her book Tiger Lily and she went on to describe the setting of the book and its characters. This is what she told us about the book. Tiger Lily is not just fond of reading, she's obsessed! Her head is full-to-bursting with stories of pirates, wonderlands, daring deeds and buried treasure. And now she's had one of her ingenious ideas - she's going to be a heroine and roam the world in search of adventure! There's just one problem. Tiger Lily lives in the Middle of Nowhere where NOTHING EVER HAPPENS! How will she ever escape…?
The children from third class said that enjoyed her visit too. They especially liked the way she explained about all of the characters from her book .

She discussed the setting of the story in the fictitious town called 'the middle of nowhere ,'which was loosely based on the town Denya outside Valencia in Spain. She showed a photo of herself at about 8 years of age. She said that she liked writing stories from the age of 7.
She spoke to first class about her very successful 'Witch in Training 'books. All first class thought this book was funny .Thanks to Ms. Doyle for organising Maeve's visit.
Maeve Friel told us how to use book crossing she also told us she hid a book for book crossing
BookCrossing is earth-friendly, and gives you a way to share your books, clear your shelves, and conserve precious resources at the same time. Through our own unique method of recycling reads, BookCrossers give life to books. A book registered on Book Crossing is ready for adventure. After you register your book, you leave it in a public place for someone else to find, read and enjoy. When a person finds it they must log on to the book crossing website to say they've found it and when the finish it, they in turn leave it for someone else to pick up. The book could travel the world in this way. Maeve left a book in our playground and it was found by Louise Mannion.
We all really enjoyed speaking to Maeve. She was so interesting and informative and gave us a great insight into the work of an author.
We would like to say a special thanks to Ms. Doyle Flynn for organising Maeve's visit
to our school.
