Radiographer
Today we had a visit from a radiographer. She works in Tullamore hospital. Her name was Kate. She brought in x-rays to show the class. Kate brought in x-rays of different parts of the body; the ribcage, the femur bone which is in your thigh, the skull and the radius and ulna bones which are in your arm. She told us that there are 26 bones in the foot. We learned that the smallest bone in the body is in the ear.

Kate is a radiographer. She x-rays one hundred people a day in Tullamore. Kate brought in x-rays and she brought one of a little girl. I think this little girl broke her wrist. I fell years ago, but Kate said I didn't break a bone. I just pulled a muscle. If somebody breaks their spine, they wouldn't be able to walk. The bones you can't mend are in your nose, ribs and tail bone. If you leave them they will mend on their own. You have to wear a special coat and some doctors wear glasses as well. The coat is made from lead to protect you from the radiation from the x-ray machine. The lights are turned off in the room when the x-ray machine is working. You need to train for four years to become a radiographer in Ireland. In England you need to train for three years.

Kate came into the classroom and first she showed us her ID card. Then she showed us some x-rays. It was cool. She showed us x-rays of a girl our age. She showed us an x-ray of a broken ulna and radius bone. These are the bones in your arm. Kate told us that she has never broken a bone. She told us that radiographers don't print x-rays anymore like they used to. All of the x-rays are on computers now and the doctors can sent the x-rays to each other on the computer.

Kate the radiographer brought in x-rays to show us. Kate has never broken a bone in her body. She is very lucky. We asked her questions like; 'Are x-rays dangerous?' She said that they are not really. Radiation comes out of the machine during an x-ray, It is a very small dose so it does not harm people. She needs a lead coat to protect her because she is exposed to radiation every day. Kate says that some people can be rude. Maybe it's because they are scared. I think she must be very kind to the patients because she was very kind to us.

Kate works from nine o'clock to half five every day. Sometimes she has to work at night time in case there is an accident. On average three hundred people get an x-ray by Kate and the people she works with in Tullamore hospital every day. Kate said it feels good to be helping people. You know that a bone is broken when you see that there is a crack when you look at the x-ray.

Kate brought in x-rays to show us. To take an x-ray the room has to be dark so the light from the x-ray machine can be seen. I learned that there is no bone in the ear, only cartilage. I learned that the bones in the nose, tail bone and rib cage cannot be mended by a doctor. They have to be left to mend themselves. Kate has to wear special clothes when she takes an x-ray. I learned that a sore bone to break is between your finger and your thumb.

Kate brought in x-rays of a skull and a person's teeth. Kate never broke a bone in her body. The only bones that can't be fixed are in your nose, tail bone and rib cage. We had our photo taken with Kate.

Kate brought in x-rays. She is very nice. Ms.Higgins is very lucky to have her as a friend. Kate has never broken any bone. She told us that the tail bone and the rib cage can't be fixed. The biggest bone is the femur. It is in your thigh. The smallest bone in your body is in your inner ear. There are 29 bones in a skull. There are 24 bones in the rib cage. There are 206 bones in the human body. A baby has 350 bones in their bodies.

Kate brought us in some x-rays. She showed us lots of x-rays. I saw one of the teeth. Kate wears a special lead coat to protect her from radiation in the x-ray room. The bone in the nose has to be left alone to mend on its own. The skull has 29 bones. There are 26 bones in the feet.

Kate's job is to see if any bones are broken in the body. She takes x-rays so people can know if their bones are broken or not. The humerus bone is in your arm. It is called the funny bone. A baby has more bones than a grown up because their bones are smaller and will stick together when they get older.

Kate brought in the prints from the computer. These were x-rays. She talked to us about bones. She was very nice to all of us and we were very nice to her. She told us about the funny bone.

The radiographer's name was Kate. She told me that there is no difference between a break and a fracture. They are the same thing. She brought in x-rays to show us broken bones and what they look like. There are two bones in the bottom of your arm. They are called the ulna and the radius. There are 29 bones in the skull. There are 350 bones in baby's body. There are 206 bones in an adult's body.

Kate brought in x-rays. Your brain orders your muscles to move. It sends messages to your body. Your muscles then help your bones to move. Your body is all connected. You have 29 bones in your skull. The longest bone in our body is the femur. It is your thigh.
