Our School Choir

The school choir has always been a big and enjoyable part of our school life. This year we have about 100 children ranging from 2nd to 6th class. We practice under the direction of our wonderful teachers Ms. Clancy and Ms. Mulhare. We have performed on many different occasions this year and have enjoyed them all.

For Christmas 2010 we visited Eliza Lodge Nursing home for the very first time. We travelled by bus, it was a bumpy ride! We were very excited. Ms. Mulhare and Ms. Heraghty accompanied us. We performed some jolly Christmas songs, such as 'Rocking around the Christmas Tree', 'Winter Wonderland' and 'Frosty the snowman'. After we had finished we spoke with our audience and they were very pleased. We all enjoyed our afternoon in Eliza Lodge.

We also performed at the Annual Parish Christmas Carol Service. The pieces we chose were more religious and solemn. Our favourite song was 'Light of the stable'. It cheered everyone up, despite the ice outside.

For Seachtain na Gaeilge, we sang for the staff and students in our school. We performed Irish versions of 'The Galway Girl' and 'We go together' from Grease. We also sang 'Beidh Aonach Amarach'. It was great fun.

A special word of thanks to Ms.Heraghty for all her help with the choir during Ms. Clancy's abscence.


Our school Variety Show was held in April. We sang 'Viva la vida' by Coldplay, 'The Cave' by Mumford and Sons and 'Teimid le cheile'. We worked hard for weeks but it was well worth it.

We are finishing up the year learning a Dublin sing-a-long and The Fields of Athenry. We are in sixth class now and we will miss the choir next year. We wish all the other children the very best for next year. We hope they continue to enjoy it as much as we have.
