Spring Flowering Bulbs
In autumn we planted spring flowering bulbs in our lawn. Every child planted bulbs. We used a bulb planter to create holes in the lawn. Into the planting holes we planted snowdrops, crocuses and dwarf daffodils. We then covered the hole up by replacing the planting plug in the hole. When we were finished planting you would not know there were bulbs planted under the grass.
In late winter the shoots from the bulbs will reach up from under the grass through the soil searching for light.
In spring the bulbs will flower and we will have colour in our lawn.
We hope the snowdrops, crocuses and dwarf daffodils flower in different weeks so we have colour in our lawn for a long time.

Minding our Bulbs
We have to leave our flowers in the lawn and not pick them all. We want our flowers to flower every year and to multiply in the lawn. We call this allowing the flowers to naturalise in the lawn.
After flowering we cannot cut the green shoots of our flowers as all the good plant food in the green shoots must travel down underground into the bulbs if the bulbs are going to be strong for next year. This means that when our bulbs have finished flowering we have to wait for 8 weeks to cut the area of the lawn in which they are growing.
In spring we will put photos of our bulbs flowering on our website.
