St. Brigid's Cross

Archives > 2008-2009 > News

Last week we were preparing for our class mass. We made Saint Bigid's crosses. Mr. Scully brought in boxes of rushes from fields near the River Shannon. We worked in groups to make traditional St. Brigid's crosses.

Sr. Maura who is from Connemeara came in and showed us how to make the Wexford and Donegal crosses. She is very skillful with her hands.

We put them up for our class mass and later that day we took them down and brought them home. Most people put them up in their home as a sign of good luck.

Sr. Maura also made St. Brigid's crosses with second class and later that day helpers from Mr. Scully's class showed Mrs. Darcy's third class how to make the cross.
