On the 3rd of March World Book day we were visited by Tom McCaughren. Tom McCaughren is a famous author. He has written many war and fox books. On Thursday he told us lots of information about how he gets ideas for his books. This great author from Ballymena, Co. Antrim has written 15 books. He has translated his books into 10 different languages - German, Swedish, Japanese, Korean, French, Dutch, Danish, Latvian and the newest one Chinese.
His work history is both varied and interesting. He worked as a journalist for The Courier and News for Ballymena/Belfast Telegraph and then he worked for The Irish Times for 13 years as a defence correspondent. Then he became a lecturer in media in Templemore Garda College. His first four books were called The Legend of the Golden Key, Phantom Highwayman, The Legend of the Corrib King and The Silent Sea and The Children of The Forge. His next series of books were called Run with the Wind, Run to the Earth, Run Swift Run Free, Run to the Ark, Run to the Wild Wood and his newest book is Run For Cover. He has won five awards for literature and he has won Book of the Decade.
He was a gentleman and we all found the things very interesting. On the day we asked him questions such as how long did it take for you to write your first book? And did anybody else in your family write before you? He answered all our questions and read from some of his books for us. We really enjoyed the time he spent with us and we look forward to reading his books in the future.
A special thanks to Ms. Doyle Flynn for organising Tom McCaughren's visit.
